Andrei Psarev completed his fifteen-year research into the life of the confessor of the faith, Archbishop Leontii (1904-1971), who struggled against Renovationism in the USSR and in the immigration continued to struggle against what he considered apostasy from Orthodoxy. The life of this hierarch illustrates the painful consequences that arise when a churchman’s fidelity to his conscience leads to making controversial decisions. This research was intended for publication in Russian in conjunction with the fortieth anniversary of Archbishop Leontii’s death in 2111, and is based primarily on unpublished sources: archival documents, correspondence, and reminiscences. See details under the heading ARCHBISHOP LEONTII.
