ROCOR-STUDIES

Dear reader,

Greetings on the memories of Equal to the Apostles St. Olga of Kiev and Holy Gret Prince Vladimir.

On August 1, 2023, I launched my project “This Day in the Life of the Church” as a part of which I have been offering my daily reflections on Church history and events of theological significance.

This “marathon” has been a learning experience, one that I forced upon myself. It has helped me better understand various periods of church history, not least of the Russian Church Abroad. Writing about Ivan Kontsevich and Archbishop Andrei of Rockland this month, I realized the spiritual link that my church used to have with the pre-revolutionary Russian Church, particularly with Optina Hermitage. This interview with Fr. Ioannikios, the first American monk of the Jordanville monastery, is another testimony to such a link.

Thank you for your continuing interest,

Protodeacon Andrei Psarev
