As we enter August, I’m reflecting with gratitude on a milestone: this marks the beginning of the second year of my daily project, This Day in the Life of the Church. What began as a personal challenge—to share daily reflections from Orthodox Church history—has grown into a consistent and meaningful rhythm of writing, contemplation, and scholarship.
Last year, I made the decision to move this work to Substack (https://andreipsarev.substack.com), and it has proven to be a game changer. The platform allows for better organization, more direct interaction with readers, and wider accessibility.
Today, This Day in the Life of the Church has over 850 subscribers. More than 200 of you have chosen to support this work financially by becoming paid subscribers and receiving my daily reflections without interruption. To those of you already following along—thank you. And to those receiving these posts only occasionally through the ROCOR Studies mailing list, I’d like to extend a warm invitation to join the full journey.
While the scope of the project is broad—encompassing moments from the full sweep of Orthodox history—the past and present of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia holds a special place in this work. Many posts explore the unique challenges, witness, and legacy of ROCOR, offering insight into its spiritual and historical path.
To those of you who are new to This Day in the Life of the Church—welcome! I’m truly grateful for your interest and would be delighted to welcome you as a regular reader. As a gesture of appreciation for the ROCOR Studies readership, I’m offering my deepest discount: 50% off a paid subscription. With this, the monthly cost is just $4, or even less if you choose the annual option—$40 for the entire year.
