ROCOR-STUDIES

Dear reader,

Greetings on the continuing celebration of the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross! The manifestation of the True Cross took place in 334, a year before the consecration of the basilica on the place of Calvary and the Resurrection by St. Constantine the Great. We are sharing with a recording of the service of the Exaltation of the Cross from the cathedral in San Francisco in the 1980s.

Our fund for digitizing audio recordings is diminishing. If you donate an amount equivalent to the price of a cup of coffee using the link below, it will help us to carry on this project.

Partner with us on Patreon and become a monthly donor (starting with $3.00): https://www.patreon.com/rocorstudies
You will also receive reports of the commemorating events on the day when they took place, rather than at some point later (as the case here).

We also have new ROCOR Studies leaflets available to you for no cost (see right below). Just inform me how many you would like to get.

Thank you for your continuing interest,

Protodeacon Andrei Psarev

Fr. George Cheremetieff (w. Kursk-Root Icon), Abbess Elisabeth (Ampenoff), Archb. John of W. Europe, Bp. Nikodem of Richmond. The photo is taken in London at the “Russian House” (5 Brechin Place, SW7) after the dedication of the house-chapel by St. John. A part of the house was used by Dr Tatiana Pavlovna Guerken-Glovatsky, a prominent member of the ROCOR parish. The nuns w. M. Elisabeth arrived in London in June, 1954. They stayed at this place until in 1960 when they acquired their current residence in Brondesbury Park. (Caption: N. Mabin, source: internetsobor.org)

Отрывок из письма

Так и теперь понятно, когда употребляют выражение “советская церковь” обыватели, плохо знакомые с церковным языком, но оно неподходяще для ответственных и богословских разговоров.

Did the Byzantine Church Cease to be the Church During Iconoclasm?

St. John reflects upon the expression "the Soviet Church." Archpriest Peter Perekrestov found the draft of this letter. St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco wrote it on this day in 1963.
